The Ulster Chess Union is the prime administrative organisation for chess in Northern Ireland. AFC has managed their primary internet presence since 2004 both developing a complex Extranet for the organisation and managing their server resources (until 2021).
The organisation maintains a number of site which were constructed using a variety of tools:
the primary websites were built using the Plone CRM.
a standard Plone instance was heavily customized with a specific theme and other adjustments
development of a tool to integrate the PGN4WEB javascript package so that chess games could be rendered through the Plone system
in addition, a member rating system was deployed by incorporating the Magnarater System
player data and user management functions were deployed by integrating a Postgres database into the Plone instance
a custom web interface was constructued to provide access to the structured data to view competition results and player histories in addition to providing an interface to the Magnarater system for Rating Officers
other support infrastructure such as a monthly newsletter (using MailChimp, internal mail groups (using Mailman) and a result service for reporting competition results (supporting both SwissPerfect and Swissmaster datasets)
Recently, control of the hosting server has been given over to local managers though for the moment the various sites remain unchanged.
